Below is a list of other options on where to stay in Kisumu depending on your budget and the kind of traveller you are.
Divine Homes Resort
Just a few minutes from Kisumu International Airport, lies this resort designed to suit all kind of travellers. Divine Homes resort have a mission of ensuring comfort to the avid traveller. They were my first option but due to some unavoidable circumstance, we could spend our stay there. Their standard room goes for kshs.5,000 per night while their most expensive room which is the executive suite goes for Kshs. 17,000 per night.
Acacia Premier Hotel
This is one of the 4 star hotels in Kisumu and is located right in the middle of the city at West End Mall. It has a wellness spa with three treatment rooms, fully equipped gym pool bar and grill, coffee shop and an all day dining room.
They have a swimming pool right in the middle of the rooftop bar. It is a perfect location for sun downers and watching the sunset behind Lake Victoria.
Though a bit pricey, I loved spending my evening here. Their room prices start from Kshs. 12,000 on bed and breakfast and the prices vary depending on the season.
Wigot Garden Hotel
I think Wigot has the best swimming pool in the whole of Kisumu town. The pool comes with a panoramic view of the city. At Wigot Hotel, you will get the option of sleeping either in a standard deluxe, superior room or a presidential suite. Yes! They have a presidential suite which comes with a lounge and a kitchen. For travellers who would love a safari like experience in the city, they have the luxury tented cottages. I absolutely loved the details in the luxury tented cottages. They have three restaurants; one with the garden view, another with the city view and the Shacks Shacks which is right beside the swimming pool. Perfect for cocktails and milkshakes.
Ciala Resort
Ciala Resort is perfect for any traveller looking for absolute serenity, peace and comfort in Kisumu. With 22 deluxe rooms, 30 superior rooms, 2 executive suites, 2 superior deluxe rooms and 22 villas, you are guaranteed to find something that suits your budget. The rates start from Kshs. 12,000.
Their pine restaurant, Tulip Bar and the Mimosa pool bar and restaurant will offer you different cuisines to indulge your taste buds. Feel free to try out their experiential dining.
Airbnb
There were a number of Airbnb options when I was looking for where to stay in Kisumu. The best ones are located in Milimani which is a posh estate in Kisumu while you can also get some in the outskirts of the city. Most of the houses especially one and two bed roomed go for kshs.3,000 to Kshs.4,500 per night. Some of this houses offer bed and breakfast.
Best Western Hotel
This contemporary hotel with 44 rooms is located along the Kisumu-Kakamega highway a few minutes from the Lake Basin Mall.
The Grand Royal Swiss
Overlooking Nandi Hills, the Grand Royal Swiss Hotel offers accommodation under four categories with 125 rooms including a presidential suite. For wellness and leisure, there is a gym, swimming pool and a spa. It is ideal for both business and leisure travellers and has four dining outlets; fine dining, lobby café and bar, all day dining and the poolside dining.
Sovereign Hotel
The 5 star boutique hotel aims to offer unprecedented luxury and quality in Kisumu. It is located in the green lush gardens in the middle of Milimani estate – one of the posh areas in Kisumu. Their rooms range from Kshs. 13,000 and above.
